Homemade Enchilada Sauce

This recipe for Homemade Enchilada Sauce is so easy to make! Just a few simple ingredients and it can be made in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic finely minced
  • ½ cup Poblano peppers finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 can tomato sauce 680ml/24oz size
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large skillet sauté the onion until soft and slightly browned. (about 5 minutes)
  • Add the garlic and Poblano peppers. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the oregano, ground cumin and chili powder.
  • Add the tomato sauce and simmer over medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper.

Notes

If you prefer the enchilada sauce thinner stir in ½ cup of vegetable or chicken broth.
