Learn how to make Homemade Caramel Sauce with 4 simple ingredients. This easy caramel sauce is creamy, smooth and buttery.

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp water
- 1/3 cup butter 2.7 ounces
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
In a medium heavy based saucepan, add the water and sugar. Stir until the sugar has dissolved into the water. (mixture will still look cloudy) Then STOP stirring!
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Continue to keep at a rolling boil until the mixture turns an amber color. DO NOT STIR. This process can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes.
Once the mixture is caramelized and is amber in color, immediately remove from the stovetop.
Add butter and whisk until the butter is melted.
Pour in the heavy cream and whisk until blended and smooth.
Stir in the vanilla extract and transfer to jar or serving dish. Sauce will thicken as it cools.
