This recipe for Old-fashioned shortbread cookies has been passed down through the generations. Made with simple ingredients, these cookies are buttery, slightly crumbly and not too sweet.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups butter room temperature
  • 1 cup Confectioners' sugar also known as powered sugar
  • 1 cup cornstarch

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375º F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Sift together the flour, confectioners' sugar and cornstarch, set aside.
  • Using a mixer, beat the butter until fluffy.
  • Add the flour mixture to the butter and continue to beat until soft and fluffy.
  • Using a cookie scoop to divide dough into even balls. Place onto prepared baking sheet leaving space between each.
  • Using a fork or decorative cookie stamp press the dough until flattened. (about 1/4 inch)
  • Bake at 375º for 10 minutes or until the edges of the cookies just start to brown.
  • Optional: Add candied cherries or decorative candy sprinkles to the cookies before baking.
