Italian Turkey Burger Soup
One of my favourite soup recipes Italian Turkey Burger Soup, both healthy and hearty made with lean ground turkey. Easy to make in less than an hour!
With the colder temperatures starting to set in what could be more comforting than a warm bowl of soup. This recipe for Italian Turkey Burger Soup makes a terrific lunch but so hearty it can definitely serve as a main course meal.

I am always looking for tasty ways to use healthy, lean, ground turkey breast. The problem with ground turkey is that it can taste dry and flavourless; not so with this recipe! Moist lean turkey meat with scrumptious flavour.

The combination of fresh oregano, thyme and basil with a tomato base add robust flavour to this exceptionally delicious soup. I usually use fresh herbs from my garden which I transfer indoors for the winter. They add superior flavour over dried, but if need be, dried herbs will still taste awesome in this recipe. Be sure to double up the recipe as this soup is even better the next day. Put in a thermos for school lunches your children will love!

Hi Laureen! I’d like to make this tonight but I have some red potatoes that need to be cooked before going bad…you think they’ll taste good in this soup?
Hi Nikki, I think potatoes would taste terrific in this soup.
Great idea!
Thanks Carolyn, love how you adapt it.
This soup is light and delicious exactly as is, all the flavor of sausage without the fat. In order to augment it a bit, I added a can of cannelini beans, a cup of chopped spinach and some cheese ravioli…….kids Loved!!
Made this soup with ground chicken. It was simply amazing. Was better the next day. Husband raved about it. Will definitely be making this again.
Ground chicken sounds
I made this tonight for dinner and it was really good. I used fire-roasted tomatoes so it added a nice kick and flavor. I will definitely make it again! Thank you for the healthy and delicious recipe!
Thank you Val, so glad you enjoyed the recipe. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
This soup looks great. Any idea on the nutritional info per serving?
Sorry I don’t, I don’t have any expertise in that field so I never posts nutritional info.
So, we gave this a try tonight, with the following variations. I added more garlic, since our family loves it. Rather than cut the carrots, I used shredded carrots, quick and easy. Since one member of our family has a tomato sensitivity, I cut those back to one, 14 oz can of fire roasted tomatoes, and omitted the paste, adding vegetable broth to make up for the liquid. I also added a can of pink beans. My family loved it. We will definitely be having it again!
That great, a super the way you adapted it to suit your family 🙂
I’ve made this soup twice now and the only change I make is that I make it with left over turkey. My family loved it so much the first time that I quadrupled the recipe this time so I can put some away in the freezer . Thanks for our new favourite meal!
Thanks Kelly, it is a great recipe for making large batches and freezing!
Calories and carbs per serving by chance??
sorry April I don’t
I put an approximation into the tool at myfitnesspal.com (no tomato paste, subbed about 5C fresh, half chopped, half puréed/reduced – it’s what I had on hand – and a cube of chicken bouillion instead of beef broth) and it came out to

I made this, this morning to have for dinner tonight. So delicious I ended up eating it for breakfast… Lol! I used fire roasted tomatoes and about a cup of cooked Quinoa, I had left over from previous dinner!! I wished I had doubled this recipe… Thank you for sharing!!
I think this is great for breakfast lol. Quinoa is a great addition.
Thank you!! I cannot tell you how much I love this soup or how many times I have made it. So many times that I know the recipe by heart – there is a pot cooking right now!! I usually add a vegetable- spinach or zucchini, and maybe a can of some type of beans. Freezes great too. Love it!!
thank you so much Martha, its one of my favs as well. I’m going to try adding spinach next time.
This was really easy and good! I made it all in one pot and added half a box of soup noodles at the end.
Terrific Brittanne, the noodles are a great addition
ITALIAN BURGER TURKEY SOUP RECIPE:
Hello, my boyfriend loves Brussels sprouts. Can I add Brussel sprouts to this recipe? And if so, when should I add them? Please tell me the best way to prepare them and add to this recipe. Also at what point do they go in? Thank you so much!
Hi Tina, I’m not too sure how brussel sprouts would taste, but I personally wouldn’t like them in this soup.
